
Alabama Women’s Tennis Q&A: Alba Cortina-Pou

RollTide.com will be posting Q&A's of each member on this year's Alabama women's tennis team so fans can get to know the members of our Crimson Tide family. The fifth Q&A is with Alba Cortina-Pou, a sophomore transfer from Texas Tech. Cortina-Pou hails from Blanes, Spain and has posted a 10-1 mark in singles play in the spring.
Q: What is your favorite thing about your hometown?
A: I love the sea, so it is very nice to live very close to the beach.
Q: If you could play tennis with anyone, who would it be?
A: I would play with Rafael Nadal because he is my favorite tennis player, and I really like his character and competiveness on court.
Q: What is your favorite restaurant in Tuscaloosa?
A: I would say that my favorite restaurant is Ichiban. They have really good sushi.
Q: What is your favorite vacation spot?
A: I don't really have a favorite vacation spot, but New York City is my favorite city. There are so many things to do, and I would love to go there again.
Q: Who is your hero and why?
A: My hero is Emma Watson because she fights for women's equality and is a great example for society.
Q: What is your favorite spot on campus and why?
A: My favorite spot is Bryant-Denny Stadium because I love the atmosphere during game days.
Q: What other sports did you play growing up?
A: When I was younger I used to combine playing tennis, swimming and ballet.
Q: How old were you when you started playing tennis and how did you get into it?
A: There was a summer that my parents decided to take me to a summer camp and we would do some activities, like playing tennis. I fell in love with the sport and told my parents that I wanted to play tennis after that summer, I was eight years old.
Q: What is your favorite thing about playing for Alabama?
A: I love that the people are so friendly and kind, and I love all the support that we get from the community.
Q: What is your major and what do you hope to do with it one day?
A: I am doing a double major in business finance and marketing, and I would like to work for a big sports company.
Q: Describe yourself in three words…
A: Positive, hardworking and kind.
Q: How many different countries have you traveled to and name a few of your favorites.
A: I have traveled to eight different countries and my favorites are Italy and the United States.
Q: If you could play another sport in college, what would it be?
A: I think that I would play basketball because I love the sport and I am tall.
Q: What's your season and why?
A: My favorite season is summer because I love warm weather and going to the beach.
Q: What would you like to say to the fans?
A: I would like to thank them for the support because it helps us a lot. I would also encourage them to come watch our matches and cheer for us, we need them!
Q: Celebrity crush or favorite actor?
A: My celebrity crush is Liam Hemsworth.
Q: What is your favorite food or type of cuisine (i.e. Mexican, Italian, etc.)?
A: My favorite type of food is Thai food.
Q: What are your pre-match rituals?
A: I like to warm up for forty minutes to an hour before my match starts. Then, once I am done warming up, I like to listen to some music because it helps me focus and I also make sure I have everything that I need like water, Gatorade, energy bars, etc.
Q: Who is your favorite athlete?
A: My favorite athlete is Serena Williams. She is one of the greatest athletes I have ever seen.
Q: Who is your favorite artist?
A: My favorite artist is Ed Sheeran and I would love to go to his concert one day.
