Alabama Track & Field Opens 2018 Outdoor Season at UTSA Invitational this Weekend

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama track & field teams will enter 40 student-athletes (16 men, 24 women) and one relay in the 2018 outdoor season opener at Texas-San Antonio's UTSA Invitational, March 16-17 in San Antonio, Texas.
Alabama Men Finish Ninth at NCAA Indoor Championships
Five Alabama student-athletes earned first-team All-America honors and the Crimson Tide men posted their second-consecutive top-10 team finish at the 2018 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, March 9-10, at Texas A&M's Gilliam Indoor Track & Field Stadium in College Station, Texas. Crimson Tide Men in Contention for Program of the Year
The Alabama men's track & field team ranks fourth in the standings for the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Men's Program of the Year Award entering the 2018 outdoor season, the USTFCCCA announced March 13.
Alabama's ninth-place finish at the 2018 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, coupled with the Crimson Tide men's 14th-place showing at the 2017 NCAA Cross Country Championship gives the Tide 23 points in the Program of the Year standings, good for fourth place behind Northern Arizona (16 points), Arkansas (18.5) and Oregon (19.5). Syracuse rounds out the top-five at 23.5 points.

"This weekend will be a good opportunity for us to get acclimated to outdoor competition. It's a quick turnaround from indoor season but we've been training all week here in San Antonio so I believe we'll be ready to go. This is also a good chance for some of our discus and javelin throwers to compete for the first time this season."
