
Two Former Alabama Women’s Tennis Players Set to Compete in Fed Cup

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama women's tennis alumni Erin Routliffe and Luicelena Perez are set to compete in the 2018 Fed Cup. Routliffe will represent New Zealand while Perez will represent Venezuela
In 2017, 95 nations played Fed Cup by BNP Paribas, making it the world's largest annual international team competition in women's sport.
Routliffe and New Zealand will play at the Bahrain Tennis Federation in Isa Town, Bahrain from Feb. 6-10 in Group II, Asia/Oceania, Pool A. The first round consists of a round robin against Uzbekistan and Lebanon. The winner of Pool A will then face the winner of Pool C (Pacific Oceania, Malaysia, Oman and Iran) to determine which nation will advance to Asia/Oceania Zone Group I in 2019.
After the first day of competition, New Zealand is tied for first in Pool A with a 3-0 win over Lebanon.
Perez and Venezuela will compete at Club Internacional de Tenis in Asuncion, Paraguay Feb. 7-10 in Group I, Americas, Pool B. The first round also consists of a round robin with Brazil, Argentina and Guatemala. The winner of Pool B will face the winner of Pool A (Paraguay, Chile and Colombia) to determine which nation will advance to the World Group II playoffs in April 2018.
Routliffe and Perez were both members of the first Southeastern Conference Championship team at Alabama in 2014, while also being a part of the first team in program history to advance to the NCAA championship quarterfinals (2014).
