
Ruebin Walters and Jaimie Robinson Post Victories for Alabama Track & Field on Final Day of New Mexico Classic

Robinson wins first collegiate triple jump competition; Walters takes fourth straight 60-meter hurdles title
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Alabama senior Ruebin Walters won his fourth-straight 60-meter hurdles race of the season and freshman Jaimie Robinson captured her first collegiate victory in the triple jump on the final day of the New Mexico Classic at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, N.M., on Saturday.
Walters won his fourth 60-meter hurdles competition in four outings this season in a time of 7.64, the fourth-fastest time in school history. Walters' prelim time of 7.71 is the sixth-best ever at UA. Sophomore Will Allen was the No. 3 collegiate finisher in the 400 meters in a personal-best 46.92. Junior Skyler Bowden finished eighth in 48.05. In the only men's field event for the Tide on Saturday, sophomore Michael Wiggins was the No. 3 collegiate finisher in the triple jump with a personal-best mark of 49-11 ÂĽ (15.22m).
For the Tide women, Robinson won the triple jump with a personal-best mark of 42-5 ½ (12.94m), the fourth-best jump in UA history. Robinson also posted the No. 5 UA school mark at 42-0 ¾ (12.82m) on her final jump of the day. On the track, sophomore Katie Funcheon was the No. 4 collegiate finisher in the 400 meters in 55.69 while junior Filippa Fotopoulou was the No. 6 collegiate finisher in the 60 meters in 7.50. Alabama's 4x400-meter relay quartet of freshman Daija Lampkin, sophomore Takyera Roberson, freshman Tamara Clark and sophomore Symone Darius capped the day with a win in a season-best 3:33.69, the third-fastest time in school history.
"We had some good performances this weekend," Alabama head coach Dan Waters said following the meet. "Ruebin Walters continues to be one of the top hurdlers in the country and it was great to see Jaimie Robinson win her first college triple jump. Our women's 4x400 relay gave us a boost at the end as well. There are some good things we can take from this trip as we get ready for the final weekend of the regular season next week." Â
Alabama will split its squads between three meets next weekend. UA will send four distance runners to the Iowa State Classic on Feb. 9 while the remainder of the distance corps will compete at the Music City Challenge in Nashville, Tenn., Feb. 9-10. The Tide sprinters, jumpers, pole vaulters and throwers will travel to Clemson for the Tiger Paw Invitational, which is also scheduled for Feb. 9-10.

60 Meters – Junior Filippa Fotopoulou was the No. 6 collegiate finisher in the 60 meters in 7.50.
4x400-Meter Relay – Alabama's "A" quartet of freshman Daija Lampkin, sophomore Takyera Roberson, freshman Tamara Clark and sophomore Symone Darius won the 4x400-meter relay in 3:33.69, the third-fastest time in school history. The Tide's "B" relay of sophomore Katie Funcheon, junior Mauricia Prieto, senior Kaitlin Walker and sophomore Hope Mazi finished third in 3:38.60.
