Alabama Women’s Golf Begins Play at Darius Rucker Intercollegiate on Friday

Crimson Tide seeking third straight Rucker team title this weekend
TUSCALOOSA Ala. – The Alabama women's golf team will return to action March 2-4 at the 2018 Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at the par-71, 6,160-yard Long Cove Club at Hilton Head Island, S.C.
Alabama is the two-time defending team champion at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate and has won the tournament in four of the six years it has been played (2012, 2013, 2016, 2017). Crimson Tide junior Cheyenne Knight has taken home top individual honors each of the last two seasons and fired a tournament-record 8-under par 205 (68-72-65) to win the 2017 tournament.

Teams competing in this year's Darius Rucker Intercollegiate include: Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona State, Auburn, Baylor, Duke, Furman, Georgia, LSU, Mississippi State, Northwestern, North Carolina, Oklahoma State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Virginia and Wake Forest.
National Rankings
Alabama boasts two of the nation's top six golfers and four of the top 34 heading into this weekend's action. Lauren Stephenson (second), Kristen Gillman (sixth), Cheyenne Knight (33rd) and Lakareber Abe (34th) are ranked in most recent Golfstat NCAA Player Rankings, released Feb. 27.
As a team, Alabama enters the weekend ranked No. 2 by Golfstat and leads the nation in scoring average at 70.68. Stephenson and Gillman are ranked No. 3 and No. 8, respectively in the most-recent Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index with Knight (40th) and Abe (44th) also appearing in the ratings. Alabama (69.70) checks in at No. 2 in the Golfweek/Sagarin team rankings released Feb. 26.
Stephenson and Gillman Ranked Among Top Five in Latest Palmer Cup Rankings
Alabama junior Lauren Stephenson is ranked No. 3 and Tide sophomore Kristen Gillman is No. 5 in the latest Arnold Palmer Cup Rankings, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced Feb. 22. The duo are in contention for spots on the United States team that will participate in the 2018 Arnold Palmer Cup, July 6-8, at the Evian Resort Golf Club in Evian-les-Bains, France. The top six women's collegiate golfers in the final spring rankings will join the top six-ranked men's collegiate golfers as part of the 24-player United States squad that will compete against a team of international college golfers.
