No. 31 Alabama Women’s Tennis Wraps Up Play at 70th Blue Gray National Tennis Classic

The Crimson Tide falls to No. 10 Wake Forest, 4-2, and No. 26 Auburn, 4-0, in rounds two and three in Montgomery
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The No. 31 Alabama women's tennis dropped a hard-fought match to No. 10 Wake Forest, 4-2, in round two and slipped to No. 26 Auburn, 4-0, in round three at the 70th playing of the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic in Lagoon Park in Montgomery. The Crimson Tide falls to 12-3 after its pair of matches on Saturday.
After dropping the doubles point on Friday, the Crimson Tide bounced back in singles play and knotted the score at one apiece after sophomore Alba Cortina-Pou took care of business at No. 6, rallying back from a 4-6 loss in set one, to win the match in sets two and three, 6-1, 6-2.
Then, Demon Deacon Anna Ulyashchenko defeated freshman Kylie Moulin, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 4, but sophomore Ann Selim put the Tide back in contention, dominating Joanna Zalewski, 6-0, 6-3.
With the match up for grabs at 2-2, Wake Forest pulled out the win capturing victories at No. 1 and 2 in three sets. No. 33 Emma Davis defeated No. 118 Andie Daniell, 6-1, 4-6, 6-0, on court one, while No. 63 Eliza Omirou topped senior Smith Hinton, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4, on court two.
In round three, Auburn took the early 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point and followed by winning three-straight singles matches for the victory. The Tigers' 60th-ranked doubles pairing defeated Daniell and Selim 6-2 at No. 1, while Daniel/Meredith topped Hinton and Pelletier at No. 3, 6-2.
In singles, No. 121 Taylor Russo defeated Pelletier, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 3, Madeline Meredith defeated Selim, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 4, while No. 60 Jaeda Daniel defeated Hinton, 6-0, 6-4, at No. 2.
Up next, Alabama will begin its Southeastern Conference slate March 2, facing the No. 20 Kentucky Wildcats at 5 p.m. CT, and will then face No. 7 Vanderbilt on Mar. 4 at 1 p.m. CT.
