No. 33 Alabama Men’s Tennis to Play Rice in the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The No. 33 Alabama men's tennis team is set to play Rice on Friday morning at 9 a.m. CT at Lagoon Park in Montgomery, Ala., in the 70th Blue Gray National Tennis Classic, as announced by the association on Wednesday afternoon.
The Crimson Tide will take on the Owls on Friday, along with an opponent to be announced after the morning matches. UA will complete the doubles portion of the second match at 3:30 p.m. CT, before finishing singles play the following day at 10 a.m.
Alabama comes into the tournament as the No. 2 seed in the eight-team tournament, with No. 20 Arizona State claiming the top seed. The Tide is off to its best start in program history after beginning the 2018 season with a perfect 12-0 record. Alabama had been receiving national votes for the previous two Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Men's Division I Top 25 Team Rankings, before coming in ranked as No. 33 in the first Top 50 computerized rankings.
The Tide will be led by junior Mazen Osama who earned his way into the Top 125 Singles Rankings coming in at No. 113. In doubles play, the duo of Osama and sophomore Edson Ortiz rank as the No. 34 doubles tandem in the nation, while sophomores Thibault Cancel and Alexey Nesterov were placed as the No. 40 doubles pair in the country.
Rice comes into Friday's match with a 3-4 record after dropping its previous two matches against Minnesota and Dartmouth. The Owls did defeat fellow SEC foe, LSU on Feb. 4, 4-3, in Houston, Texas.
Teams participating in the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic include: No. 33 Alabama, Arizona, No. 20 Arizona State, Auburn, Boise State, Fresno State, Princeton and Rice.
