The Crimson Tide receives national votes for the second consecutive national poll after a 2-1 weekend in Seattle
TEMPE, Ariz. – After starting the 2018 season with its best start since 2009, the Alabama women's tennis team received votes for the second consecutive week in the Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Women's Division I National Top-25 Team Rankings on Wednesday, as announced by the association.
The recognition comes after a 2-1 record over the weekend in Seattle, Wash. Despite falling to then-No. 24 Washington on Friday, the Crimson Tide bounced back, toppling over Portland, 4-0, and Eastern Washington, 6-1, on Saturday to improve to 11-1.
Alabama also started the season with a 9-0 record, including an upset-win over UCF on the road on Jan. 26, who received national Top-25 votes on Jan. 24. The Tide's outstanding start was the longest win streak since Alabama's conference championship season in 2014.
A national rankings panel voted on the Top-25 teams and will do so up to the ITA Division I National Team Indoor Championships in February. Upon the conclusion of the two national events, team rankings will transition to the computerized system on February 20, 2018, along with national singles and doubles rankings.
Up next, the Crimson Tide will head to Montgomery, Ala. on Feb. 23-24 to co-host the 70th playing of the prestigious Blue Gray National Tennis Classic at the Lagoon Park and O'Connor Tennis Center.
