
Alabama Track & Field Shines in Field Events on Final Day of Tiger Paw Invitational

Haugh, McEwen, Destin and Moncrieffe post multiple school top-10 marks on Saturday
CLEMSON S.C. – Alabama's field event squads turned in multiple school top-10 performances and the Tide's women's 4x400-meter relay sprinted to the third-fastest time in UA history on the final day of competition at the Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson, S.C.
Senior Daniel Haugh finished second in the men's weight throw with a season-best mark of 74-4 (22.66m) that ranks No. 2 all-time at Alabama. Haugh also recorded a throw of 74-1 (22.58m) in the competition which is the fourth-best in Alabama history. Junior Shelby McEwen finished second in the high jump with a clearance of 7-3 ¾ (2.23m), which ranks No. 3 all-time at Alabama. McEwen also cleared the bar at 7-2 ½ (2.20m) to equal the sixth-best jump in school history.
In women's events at Clemson on Saturday, Junior Stacey Destin was the top collegiate finisher in the high jump with a clearance of 6-0 ¾ (1.85m). The mark is a season-best for Alabama and equals the seventh-best jump in school history. Junior Tamara Moncrieffe was the No. 5 collegiate finisher in the triple jump with a mark of 42-1 ½ (12.84m), which ranks fifth all-time at Alabama. Moncrieffe also had a jump of 41-10 ¾ (12.77m) that is the 10th-best in UA history.
On the track, Alabama's "A" relay of freshman Daija Lampkin, sophomore Symone Darius, freshman Tamara Clark and sophomore Takyera Roberson finished third in the women's 4x400-meter relay in a UA season-best 3:32.72. The time also ranks No. 3 all-time Alabama. The foursome now owns the third- and fourth-fastest 4x400 times in school history, both of which have been run in the last two weeks.
"Our field events continue to be a strength for us," Alabama head coach Dan Waters said following the day's action. "Shelby McEwen had another great weekend and Daniel Haugh turned in his best effort of the season as well. And the performance by our women's 4x400 group the last two weekends has given us a boost. We need to really tie these performances together and build on that momentum heading into the SEC Championships."
Alabama's distance squad was also in action on Saturday at the Music City Challenge in Nashville, Tenn. Junior Connor Ferrentino finished 10th in the men's 800 meters in a UA season-best 1:52.43 in his first collegiate outing at that distance. Sophomore Noah Karr finished 12th in a personal-best 1:52.99. Freshman Drew Williams was 13th in 1:53.23 and sophomore Oliver Rigg was 15th in 1:53.53, which is also a personal best.
In the women's events in Nashville, senior Caroline Barlow was the No. 9 collegiate finisher in the mile in a UA season-best 4:51.08. Junior Nicole Gardner finished 12th in a personal-best 4:52.97.
Alabama will now turn its focus to the Southeastern Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, which will be held Feb. 24-25 in College Station, Texas.
