Alabama Rolls Past Tulane, 69-58

The Crimson Tide led for the entirety of the contest and by as many as 20 points
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's basketball team led from start to finish as the Crimson Tide (6-4) downed Tulane 69-58 on Saturday afternoon inside Coleman Coliseum. The Tide snapped a three-game losing streak with the win, while ending the Green Wave's (7-2) three-game win streak.
"A great job by our team today," head coach Kristy Curry said. "I am really proud of their effort on both ends of the floor. We just beat a really good team that has great balance and are so well coached and I thought we had a great game plan going in. We were really active on the defensive end and we were able to create a lot of baskets off of turnovers. We controlled the boards and there were a lot of positives for our team to build on today."
The Crimson Tide were led offensively by sophomore Jasmine Walker, who scored 20 points and grabbed five rebounds. Junior Cierra Johnson poured in 18 points, including four three-pointers, while also notching six rebounds and five assists. In just her second game back from injury, junior Jordan Lewis tossed in 16 points and dished out four assists.
Alabama began the game on an 11-2 run with 5:24 to play in the first. A layup by senior Shaquera Wade with two seconds to go in the frame gave the Tide a 23-9 lead after one quarter of action.
Tulane opened the second quarter on an 9-0 run to cut the Tide's lead to 23-18 with 4:53 left in the period. With 1:40 remaining in the first half and Alabama holding on to a five-point advantage, Johnson drained back-to-back triples to extend the Crimson Tide lead to 31-20 entering the halftime break.
At the 6:34 mark of third quarter, with Alabama leading 38-28, the Tide put its foot on the gas and reeled off nine straight points to take a 47-28 lead with 4:13 left in the period. After 30 minutes of play, UA held a 51-37 advantage.
The Crimson Tide's lead reached as many as 20 with 4:10 remaining in the game, but Tulane staged a late comeback effort and cut the Alabama advantage to 67-57 with 59 seconds remaining. The Tide was able to stave off the Green Wave's surge and claim a 69-58 win.
Alabama outrebounded Tulane 43-33, including a 15-5 edge in offensive rebounds. The UA defense turned up the pressure, forcing the Green Wave into 23 turnovers. The Crimson Tide were also efficient from the foul line, making 78 percent (14-of-18) of its attempts from the stripe.
The Tide will return to action on Sunday, Dec. 16 when it takes on Northwestern State. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. CT inside Coleman Coliseum and will be broadcast on SEC Network +.
