
Lewis’ Career Day Powers Alabama Past Virginia, 64-52, in the Florida Sunshine Classic

Junior Jordan Lewis poured in a career-high 25 points in the win
WINTER PARK, Fla. – Junior Jordan Lewis' career-high 25 points pushed the Alabama women's basketball team past Virginia, 64-52, on Thursday night at the Florida Sunshine Classic inside Warden Arena located on the campus of Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla. With the win the Crimson Tide improved to 8-4 on the year, while the Cavaliers dropped to 4-7.
To go along with her 25 points, Lewis also grabbed six rebounds and three assists. The Windermere, Fla., native's three assists moved her to No. 9 all-time in career assists at Alabama. Sophomore Jasmine Walker picked up her third double-double of the season after putting in 18 points to go along with 12 rebounds. Junior Cierra Johnson also chipped in 10 points in the win.
The Tide never trailed in the game and knocked down nine three-pointers, while holding the Cavaliers to just 28 percent (19-of-66) shooting from the floor.
Alabama jumped out to a 10-2 lead with 4:20 to go in the opening quarter and held the 17-9 advantage after 10 minutes of play. In the second frame, the Tide led by as many as 13 on two separate occasions and took the 36-26 lead into the halftime break.
The two sides traded buckets in the lead quarter as Alabama held the 52-42 edge going into the last 10 minutes of action. In the fourth, the Tide took its largest lead of the game after Lewis knocked down her career-best tying fifth three-pointer to put UA up 58-42 with 8:10 remaining. The Tide led by double-digits for the remainder of the game on its way to its third-straight victory.
Alabama will return to action tomorrow against No. 24 Miami (Fla.) at 5:15 p.m. CT to close out the Florida Sunshine Classic. The game between the Tide and the Hurricanes will be streamed on FloHoops.com.
