
Johnson’s Career-High 27 Points Not Enough as Alabama Falls to No. 24 Miami, 101-74

Juniors Cierra Johnson and Jordan Lewis were both named to the all-tournament team
WINTER PARK, Fla. – Junior Cierra Johnson's career-high 27 points were not enough as Alabama fell to No. 24 Miami (Fla.), 101-74 on Friday night at the Florida Sunshine Classic inside Warden Arena located on the campus of Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla. The Crimson Tide finishes up non-conference play with an 8-5 record, while the Canes move to 11-2.
Johnson shot 9-of-16 from the floor to go along with six rebounds and three assists, while earning all-tournament team honors. Sophomore Jasmine Walker added 14 points, while junior Jordan Lewis pitched in 13 points and five assists and was also named to the all-tournament team.
The Canes never trailed in the game as Miami shot 58 percent (39-of-67) from the floor and an unheard of 73 percent (16-of-22) from beyond the arc. Alabama made 27-of-67 (40 percent) from the field, while knocking down nine three-pointers in the loss.
Miami jumped out to a 22-9 lead after the first 10 minutes of play and took a 55-34 advantage into the halftime break. The Tide got as close as 14 in the third quarter but the Canes held the double-digit advantage for the entire second half on the way to the win.
Alabama will return to action in 2019 when it opens Southeastern Conference play against Florida on Thursday, Jan. 3 inside Coleman Coliseum. The game between the Tide and the Gators will be streamed on SEC Network +.
