Alabama Opens Up Regular Season Against Southeastern Louisiana on Wednesday

The Crimson Tide will take on the Lady Lions at 7 p.m. inside Coleman Coliseum
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's basketball team officially opens the 2018-19 regular season against Southeastern Louisiana on Wednesday at 7 p.m. CT inside Coleman Coliseum.
- Beat Auburn Beat Hunger: Fans who bring a canned food item to Wednesday's game will receive free admission.
- BAMA Salute: All military and first responders will receive free admission to Wednesday night's game. Family members will receive discounted admission of $3 per ticket with promo code. Limited edition Bama Salute buttons will also be available fans at the game.
THE BROADCAST
- Wednesday's game will stream live on SEC Network + via the WatchESPN app. Eli Gold (play-by-play) and Rick Moody (analyst) will be on the call and will be joined by sideline reporter Mackenzie McClintock.
- The game can also be heard on the Crimson Tide Sports Network on 93.3 FM in Tuscaloosa with Roger Hoover on the broadcast.
OPENING TIP
- Wednesday's matchup opens the regular season for both Alabama and Southeastern Louisiana.
- The Crimson Tide leads the overall series against the Lady Lions 8-2.
- Alabama has won the last eight meetings against Southeastern Louisiana, including the last five matchups by a double-digit margin.
- The last time the Tide and Lady Lions met was on Nov. 25, 2012 in Tuscaloosa, where UA won by its biggest margin ever against SLU in its 97-62 win.
- Alabama is 4-1 in season openers under head coach Kristy Curry, including winning its last four openers.
TWO EXHIBITIONS, TWO WINS
- The Crimson Tide rolled through the preseason with exhibitions wins over Faulkner (100-44) on Oct. 21 and Mississippi College (82-53) on Nov. 1.
- In the two exhibitions, junior Jasmine Walker and freshman De'Sha Benjamin led the team in scoring by averaging 12.5 points per game respectively.
- Coach Curry is 7-0 all-time in exhibitions at Alabama.
IN THE RECORD BOOKS
- Junior Ashley Knight is just 39 blocks away from breaking Alabama's all-time block record, with 149 blocks in her career. Last year she finished No. 4 in the Tide record books with 59 blocks in a single-season. Knight still holds the single-season record for blocks with 90 in 2016-17.
- Knight also currently holds the highest career field goal percentage (.561 – min. 295 attempts) in Alabama history. The Austin, Texas native, has made 166-of-296 attempts in her two-year career.
- Junior point guard Jordan Lewis is currently sitting at No. 7 all-time at Alabama in career assists per game with 3.9 in her two-year stint with the Tide. Lewis also came in at No. 8 in the UA record books in single-season assists with 154 during the 2016-17 season.
ABOUT SOUTHEASTERN LOUISIANA
- The Lady Lions finished with an 8-21 record last year under first-year head coach, Ayla Guzzardo.
- SLU finished with a 7-11 mark in the Southland in 2017-18, which was ninth-best in the conference.
- The Lady Lions have five seniors on their roster, including returning their second-leading scorer in Jyar Francis (10.4 points per game) and leading rebounder from last season, Caitlyn Williams (6.9 rebounds per game).
CLEAR BAG POLICY
- Alabama Athletics' clear bag policy, which has been used at Bryant-Denny Stadium since the 2016 season, will now be implemented at all home ticketed sporting events, including the women's basketball regular season opener on November 7.
