Alabama Rowing Posts Five Top-10 Finishes Saturday at the Head of the Hooch

The Crimson Tide takes home silver and bronze, improving to three total medals for the fall season
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Alabama rowing opened its first day of racing at the Head of the Hooch Saturday with five top-10 finishes across three events. The Tide took home silver in the Women's Championship 8+ and bronze in the Women's Championship 4+.
"We were pleased with the racing today," UA head coach Glenn Putyrae said. "The athletes have been working to improve this fall and it is encouraging to see the progress we have made."
Alabama kicked off its day in the Women's Championship 8+, posting two top-10 finishes. The Tide's silver-medal crew finished in 15:02.047, just three seconds shy of first-place Louisville. In the Women's College & Club Novice 8+, the Tide racked up another top-10 finish (10th, 17:20.715) before ending its day with a third- (16:36.689) and ninth-place (16:48.228) finishes in the Women's Championship 4+.
"I was very excited to see the novices compete in their first competition as Tide athletes," Putyrae said.
Alabama closes its fall season tomorrow morning with four pairs rolling out in the Women's Open 2- (11:41 a.m. CT) along with three crews competing in the Women's Open 8+, set for a 12:12 p.m. CT start.
