Former Alabama players provide solid performances on both sides of the ball
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The 12th week of the 2018-19 season in the National Football League wrapped up on Monday. Below is a look at some of the highlights from week 12 by former Crimson Tide players currently playing in the NFL.
A trio of former Crimson Tide standouts earned three of the league's six Player of the Week honors, including NFC offensive and defensive player of the week along with AFC special teams player of the week.
In the NFC, the divisional awards went to Amari Cooper (Offensive) and Eddie Jackson (Defensive). Cooper put up big numbers for the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving, hauling in eight receptions for 180 yards with two touchdowns. The wideout led the team in receptions and yards, helping the Cowboys top the Washington Redskins, 31-23. Jackson finished his holiday matchup with three tackles, a pair of pass breakups and an interception, which he took to the end zone from 41 yards out. The pick-six marked the fifth time Jackson has found the end zone since entering the league in 2017, which is more than double than any other defensive player in the NFL. With the help of Jackson's scoring effort, the Chicago Bears beat the divisional rival Detroit Lions, 23-16.
From the AFC, Cyrus Jones earned special teams player of the week thanks to his 70-yard punt return touchdown in the Baltimore Ravens' 34-17 win over the Oakland Raiders.
Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley continued their string of successful performances this season in the Atlanta Falcons' Thanksgiving night matchup with the New Orleans Saints. Ridley caught eight passes for 93 yards and found the end zone once, while Jones led the team in receptions with 11, going for 147 yards to keep him atop the league-leaders in receiving yards with 1,305. Joining the Atlanta duo at wideout was Buffalo Bills' first-year receiver Robert Foster, with the rookie catching two passes for 94 yards and a touchdown in his team's 24-21 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
On the defensive side of the ball, three former Alabama players led their respective team in tackles. C.J. Mosley (Baltimore Ravens) finished with eight stops while Jonathan Allen (Washington Redskins) recorded 10 total tackles, including two for a loss and one sack. Rounding out the trio was Landon Collins (New York Giants), with the standout safety tallying nine total tackles with two for loss. Collins remains among the top-10 tacklers in the NFL.
