The entire Crimson Tide roster will compete at the three-day event in Atlanta, Ga.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama swimming and diving teams return to action this week, traveling to Atlanta, Ga., for the Georgia Tech Invitational. The three-day event gets underway Thursday and runs through Saturday at the McAuley Aquatic Center.
The Crimson Tide is taking its entire roster to the meet. For those who have by-and-large secured their spot on the UA's Southeastern Conference roster, the meet will provide an opportunity to swim events that they don't usually get to compete during a dual meet race. For others, it's an opportunity make a case for a spot on the SEC roster.
"In years past, we've rested more for this meet than we did coming into this weekend," UA head coach Dennis Pursley said. "This season we're more focused on making national cuts at the SEC championships. We're still looking for everyone to take a step forward in terms of performance at this meet."
Alabama will face several top SEC and ACC squads among others in Atlanta, including Florida, Auburn, Florida State, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia Tech.
"The level of competition is stronger this year, allowing us to treat this as a dry run for the championship season," Pursley said.
In addition to the full slate of individual events, including platform diving, which is rarely competed during the dual meet season, Alabama will have the opportunity to swim all five relays during the weekend. Currently, the Tide men are undefeated in relays this season.
The meet gets started on Thursday with the 200 freestyle and 400 medley relays as well as the 50 and 500 freestyles and the 200 individual medley as well as men's and women's springboard diving events.
