TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The 2018 Alabama softball team was recognized for its excellence in the classroom Wednesday by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, placing eighth on the 2017-18 Easton/NFCA Division-I All-Academic list with a 3.590 team grade point average, the highest mark for any 2018 NCAA Super Regional or Southeastern Conference team.
Of the 107 teams on the NFCA's list, only eight of the 16 teams from last year's Super Regional round earned a spot and Alabama is the highest-ranked of those eight. The Crimson Tide was one of six SEC teams on the list, with 17th-ranked Tennessee as the only other league team to earn a spot in the top-20.
This marks the second-straight year that Alabama has been the highest-ranked Super Regional and SEC team.
Individually, 12 Alabama student-athletes earned NFCA All-American Scholar Athlete honors, the second-highest total among league teams.
