Abbie Boswell Breaks Record in Heartbreaking Fall Against Auburn, 2-1

Gabby Duca scores in the Crimson Tide’s final game of the 2018 campaign
AUBURN, ALA. – The Alabama soccer team fell, 2-1, on Thursday night against Auburn at the Auburn Soccer Complex. Senior Abbie Boswell broke the program's all-time career shot attempts record in her final match. With the loss, the Crimson Tide conclude the 2018 campaign at 8-8-3 overall, and 2-6-2 in Southeastern Conference play.
The Tigers (12-5-1; 4-5-1 SEC) struck first, scoring in the 11th minute, and the goal held up as the opening period came to an end.
The second half was a back-and-forth, physical affair that featured 17 fouls, including nine credited to Auburn. The offense, featured Auburn outshooting Alabama a match total of 17-10. Senior Abbie Boswell made history with her lone shot attempt of the game, she broke the program's career shot attempts record, totaling 232 over her career.
Sophomore goalkeeper Alex Plavin put the team on her back for the majority of the contest, making incredible saves all night long. Plavin finished with seven saves, just two shy of tying her season high.
Alabama rallied in the final 30 minutes of the match, looking for an equalizer. The game picked up as freshman Riley Mattingly connected with redshirt-freshman Gabby Duca across the box to put Alabama on the scoreboard in the 83rd minute of the game. The goal marked Duca's second goal of the season and Mattingly's fourth assist of the season.
In the end though, Auburn leading scorer Bri Folds shined through, netting the winner in a penalty kick seconds after Alabama scored. Unfortunately, Alabama could not level the score despite the spirited effort.
