Fall Festival at Alberta Head Start
We had another great event at Alberta Head Start as part of our Unity Project this week, with student-athletes, coaches and staff lending a hand with a Fall Festival that included lots of games and activities with the children and their parents. We also delivered the windfall from the book drive that rower Virginia Dodenhoff organized, helping further Alberta Head Start's mission. We are so proud of our connection with Alberta Head Start and the impact Alabama Athletics as a whole is having on these young lives. We love seeing our student-athletes use their #PlatformToImpact!
Clear Bag Policy Extended to All Ticketed Events
Our clear bag policy, which has been used at Bryant-Denny Stadium for the past three seasons, is now being extended to all ticketed athletic events, beginning with our men's basketball regular season opener on November 6. This will assist in moving people through the gates faster with bag checks and also enhances public safety. For more information on the policy, visit RollTide.com/AllClear.
Record Crowd for Halloween Extravaganza
What an amazing turnout for our annual Halloween Extravaganza. The event, held in the Hank Crisp Indoor Facility, was a great opportunity for our student-athletes to give back and interact with their younger fans. There were plenty of great costumes, including a spot-on one of Coach Saban, down to the vest and straw hat. It was another great event by our teams, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and our Life Skills initiative. A special shout out to the Crimson Tide Foundation for providing the trick or treat candy that we gave out. Always a big hit!
Beat Auburn Beat Hunger
One of the benefits of another record turnout at the Halloween Extravaganza is that our fans filled four Beat Auburn Beat Hunger collection barrels during the event to benefit the West Alabama Food Bank. We will also have donation barrels at our volleyball match against Ole Miss in Foster Auditorium on October 28 and our basketball squads will have back-to-back collection drives in November. The men's team will have barrels in place for its November 6 game against Southern, while the women will have the same on November 7 against Southeastern Louisiana. We appreciate everyone's help in supporting this vital cause.
Habitat for Humanity Build Part II
For the second time this fall, several of our teams took part in a Habitat for Humanity build weekend, working through our Life Skills program to continue making a positive impact. I have to agree with women's tennis junior Alba Cortina Pao, who said, "It's exciting to see each one of us can give a little bit to build a big thing like a house."
Thank you, Donors!
As you may have seen, The University of Alabama set another fundraising record for gifts and pledges during the 2017-2018 fiscal year of $224.3 million from over 62,300 donors. The contributions to the Crimson Tide Foundation and Alabama Athletics were a significant piece of the overall numbers for the University and I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has contributed over the last year. Your support enables us to provide the resources for our championship programs and scholarships for our outstanding student-athletes. Over the past year, supporters of our Athletics Department have shown their loyalty and pride for our programs through their contributions at every level. Regardless of amount, our supporters have come together to make a difference for our student-athletes and our university. Whether you made your first gift to the Crimson Tide Scholarship Fund or contributed a leadership gift to The Crimson Standard, we are grateful for your support.
