Crimson Tide using this week to work on fundamentals and corrections
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The University of Alabama football team continued its bye week work on Wednesday afternoon with a two-hour practice at the Thomas-Drew Practice Fields.
It was the second of three practices this week as the Crimson Tide continued to focus on improving techniques and fundamentals. The Tide will practice again Thursday before enjoying its first off weekend of the season. The team will return to the practice field on Monday to begin preparations for a showdown with the No. 4 LSU Tigers.
Alabama and LSU will meet on Nov. 3 for a 7 p.m. CT kickoff at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, La. The game will air on CBS with Brad Nessler, Gary Danielson and Jamie Erdahl on the call.
Alabama tight Irv Smith Jr. picked up John Mackey Award Tight End of the Week honorable mention honors this week, the Friends of John Mackey announced Wednesday. Smith Jr. caught a career-high five passes for 50 yards and a touchdown in the Tide's 58-21 win over Tennessee last Saturday.
Also on Wednesday, senior tight end Hale Hentges was announced as one of 10 finalists for the 2018 Senior CLASS Award. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. The finalists were chosen by a selection committee from the list of 30 candidates announced earlier in the season. This year's winner will be announced in January.
