Avery Johnson, Herbert Jones and John Petty represent Tide
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama men's basketball head coach Avery Johnson, along with guards John Petty and Herbert Jones, represented the Crimson Tide program at the Southeastern Conference men's basketball media day on Wednesday morning.
"Today was great because it shows that the season is just around the corner," Johnson said. "We're less than a month away from opening night and it's been a fun day having Herbert Jones and John Petty with me at SEC Media Day."
"It was exciting to be a part of SEC Media Day," Petty said. "We know the season is basically here and getting to see what people think of our program and what kind of questions they have for us, it was a fun day."
The trio spent their time talking with different local and national media outlets previewing the 2018-19 team. The two-hour long event included photo shoots and on-camera interviews with the likes of college basketball analysts Andy Katz, Seth Greenberg, Pat Bradley and Dari Nowkhah, among others.
The event was held at the Grand Bohemian Hotel, which is located in Mountain Brook, Ala.
The Crimson Tide will officially begin the 2018-19 campaign with an exhibition game against Montevallo on Tuesday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m. CT. The regular season tips off on Tuesday, Nov. 6, when Alabama takes on Southern University in Coleman Coliseum. That contest will tip off at 7 p.m. CT and will be televised on SEC Network+.
"We want to take that next step as a program," Johnson said. "We advanced in the NCAA Tournament last year for first time in a long time and sent one of our guys, Collin Sexton, to the NBA. We just want to build from last year and continue to grow and develop."
