
Alabama’s Rhyan White Earns Third Top-Four Finish at 2018 Youth Olympic Games

The Crimson Tide freshman was fourth in the 50-meter backstroke on Thursday with a time of 28.86, just eight-hundredths of a second out of third place at the bronze medal
BUENOS AIRES – Alabama rookie Rhyan White earned her third top-four finish in as many individual events at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games Thursday evening. The Crimson Tide freshman took fourth in the 50-meter backstroke on the fourth day of the Games which are being held in Buenos Aires, Argentina this week.
White posted a time 28.86 seconds, to finish just eight-hundredths of a second out of third place and the bronze medal. She earned Team USA's first swimming medal of the Games on Monday, taking bronze in the 100-meter backstroke. She also took fourth in the 200-meter backstroke on Tuesday.
The Herriman, Utah, native shattered the Alabama school record in both the 100-meter and 200-meter backstrokes during these Games, which feature athletes that are between the ages of 15 to 18 in a variety of sports.
Fellow Tide freshman Kalia Antoniou is also at the Youth Olympics, competing for her native Cyprus. She reached the semifinals of both the 50-meter and 100-meter freestyles and finished in the top-20 in the heats of the 50-meter backstroke.
