Former Alabama players provide strong performances on both sides of the ball
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The fifth week of the 2018-19 season in the National Football League wrapped up on Monday. Below is a look at some of the highlights from former Crimson Tide players currently playing in the NFL during week five.
The New Orleans Saints dominant 43-19 win over the Washington Redskins included a solid performance from running back Mark Ingram II. In his first game this season, Ingram carried 16 times for 53 yards and reached the end zone twice on the ground, while also catching two passes for 20 yards. In that same game, Redskins defensive lineman Jonathan Allen recorded five tackles while fellow linemate Da'Ron Payne added for four stops, including a sack.
Kareem Jackson etched his name in the Houston Texans' record books with his effort against the Dallas Cowboys. In the Texans' 19-16 win, Jackson combined for five tackles, broke up a pass and picked off his 15th career pass. The interception secured him the top spot on the all-time interceptions list for the Texans. Marlon Humphrey also contributed a strong effort for the Ravens defensive backfield, recording four tackles while adding a pass breakup and forced fumble to his stat line in Baltimore's overtime loss to the Cleveland Browns.
Miami Dolphins running back Kenyan Drake had a big day despite a losing effort to the Cincinnati Bengals. Drake carried the ball six times for 46 yards to average 7.7 yards per carry, while contributing seven catches for 69 yards and a touchdown. Also providing a strong output on the ground was Jacksonville running back T.J. Yeldon. The tailback accounted for one of the Jaguars' two touchdowns on the day as part of his eight receptions totaling 69 yards. In addition, Yeldon contributed 53 rushing yards to total 122 all-purpose yards.
Defensive lineman Da'Shawn Hand put together a solid game for the Detroit Lions in a 31-23 win over the rival Green Bay Packers. Hand combined for four tackles, including a sack, and forced a fumble. Also excelling on defense was Mark Barron, who recorded a team-leading nine tackles in the Los Angeles Rams' 33-31 win over the Seattle Seahawks.
