TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The No. 7 Alabama gymnastics team takes on the Missouri Tigers Friday night in Coleman Coliseum starting at 7:30 p.m.
The Southeastern Conference showdown marks Alabama's fourth meet of the season, third-consecutive SEC meet and its second home contest. It is Missouri's third meet of the season, second road meet and third SEC meet on the young season.
Alabama comes into the meet following a season-best 196.725 last Friday on the road at LSU while Missouri posted a season-best 196.325 in its win over Arkansas last Friday in Columbia, Mo.
"I'm proud of where we are," UA head coach Dana Duckworth said. "I think everything we have done, week after week, has gotten better and better and better."
The two teams last met in the regular season on Jan. 20, 2017 in Columbia, where Alabama took a 197.225-195.500 win, including an extraordinary 49.600 on the balance beam. The two teams last met in Tuscaloosa on Jan. 15, 2016, when Alabama won 197.175-196.050.
There are several giveaways and promotions associated with Friday's meet. It will be Princess Night in Coleman Coliseum with the first 500 fans receiving crowns and as many as 10 princesses will be on the concourse available for pictures. The first 500 UA students to come to the meet will also receive a free snow cone. It will also be Academic Achievement Night. Tuscaloosa city and county as well as Birmingham city elementary school students have received vouchers that can be redeemed for free admission for two.
"Our academic success is one of the things that is so special about our program," Duckworth said. "It's been a part of our history and part of our culture that we excel not only in the gym but in the classroom and in the community."
The Crimson Tide is led by the senior trio of Mack Brannan, Nickie Guerrero and Kiana Winston. Brannan has a season-high 9.9 on the uneven bars, while Guerrero went a season-high 9.95 to win the balance beam at LSU. Winston has been on fire to start her final season, scoring 9.9 or better in six of her first nine events this season. Â
The Missouri meet is the first of two back-to-back Fridays in Coleman Coliseum for the Crimson Tide and will be followed by UA's 14th annual Power of Pink meet on Feb. 2 against Arkansas at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for UA home meets are available through the Alabama Ticket Office (205.348.2262) located in the lobby of Coleman Coliseum and online at RollTide.com.
