Colleen Clancy and Tamara Moncrieffe win women’s pole vault and triple jump on Saturday
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Alabama once again excelled in the field events on the final day of competition at the Vanderbilt Invitational on Saturday in Nashville, Tenn.
The Tide women recorded victories in the pole vault, triple jump and 4x400-meter relay and turned in a shot put performance that produced three school top-10 marks. The UA men recorded a victory in the 60-meter hurdles by Ruebin Walters as the senior blazed to the second-fastest time in the nation this season.
"We had some great performances in the field events this weekend," Alabama head coach Dan Waters said following the meet. "There were multiple school top-10 marks in the men's pole vault, women's shot put and women's triple jump. Add that to the performances on the track by our 4x400-meter relay, as well as in the hurdles, sprints and distance events and this was a solid weekend for us across all disciplines."
Freshman Colleen Clancy recorded her first collegiate pole vault victory in just her second career meet with the Tide with a clearance of 13-0 ¼ (3.97m). Senior Britainy Smith was second at 12-7 ½ (3.85m). Junior Tamara Moncrieffe won the women's triple jump with an effort of 42-8 (13.00m) on her final attempt of the competition. On the track, the quartet of freshman Daija Lampkin, juniors Mauricia Prieto and Tamara Clark and sophomore Symone Darius won the women's 4x400-meter relay in 3:35.89, the fourth-fastest time in school history. The time also ranks seventh nationally this season. The men's 4x400-meter relay of sophomore Will Allen and juniors Keitavious Walter, Okeen Williams and Skyler Bowden posted the seventh-fastest time in school history at 3:07.86, which was the top collegiate time of the race and the fifth-fastest time in the country this season.
