
Alabama Women’s Tennis Alumni Spotlight

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's tennis team is set to host its alumni weekend March 9-11. To prepare for the much anticipated reunion, the women's tennis program will highlight standout student-athletes who once wore the Crimson and White uniform.
Myke Loomis – 1980-1982
Myke Loomis turned in a career of firsts for the Crimson Tide during her three-year stint at the Capstone. Loomis, along with teammate Kathy Denton, was the first player to qualify for singles at the NCAA Championships in 1982, while being the first player in school history to be selected to the first-team All-SEC squad in the same year. Furthermore, in 1981, Loomis won a program-high 22 consecutive matches at the No. 1 position, and a year later, she recorded the most singles victories in a single season (37-10,No. 2).
Jenny Whalen (1990-1993)
Jenny Whalen sits seventh on the all-time career singles victories list with an 87-65 record. Whalen also finished inside the top-75 in the final ITA singles rankings at No. 63 in 1993 with a 26-14 mark. Furthermore, Whalen was selected to the All-SEC second team in singles in 1993.
Alexa Guarachi (2010-2013)
During her four-year career at the Capstone, Alexa Guarachi amassed 109 singles victories, which is the most singles wins ever recorded by a player in Alabama history. From 2010-12, the All-American and teammate Courtney McLane won 69 doubles matches, which also tops the Tide's all-time doubles list. The three-time SEC Player of the Week, earned three first-team conference honors, was a member of the league's all-tournament team in 2013 and made four appearances at the NCAA Championships, with her best finish coming in 2013 in the semifinal round.
Mary Anne Macfarlane (2011-2014)
Mary Ann Macfrarlane started her Alabama career with a bang, being named the 2011 SEC Freshman of the Year. During her four years with the Crimson Tide, Macfarlane made three straight singles appearances and two consecutive doubles showings at the NCAA Championships, while recording her highest finish at the tournament in the semifinal round in 2013 with former teammate Guarachi. The two-time All-American owns the second-best single season record in singles play at the No. 1 position (34-13, 2012) and registered the second-best final ITA singles ranking (2012) in program history. Furthermore, she won the prestigious NCAA Elite 89 award in 2012 and was a part of Alabama's first SEC Championship team in 2014.
