Thibault Cancel Advances in Day One at Oracle ITA Masters

MALIBU, Calif. – Alabama's Thibault Cancel advanced to the round of 16 by defeating Nouchi Kennosuke (Western Michigan) in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5, in the Oracle ITA Masters tournament held at Pepperdine University in Malibu, Calif., on Thursday.
Cancel, the No. 7 seed in the tournament, will advance to play the No. 10 seed Michail Pervolarkais (Portland) tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. CT.
The sophomore also competed in two mixed doubles matches with partner Viktoriya Dzyuba (Lipscomb) as they defeated Livianu/Sucevic (St. John's) 6-4 in their first match of the tournament. The mixed doubles pairing then took on the No. 1 seed in the tournament, Shibahara (UCLA)/Holt (USC), falling, 6-4, in a tightly contested match.
