Alabama Women’s Golf Returns to Action at Schooner Fall Classic this Weekend

Crimson Tide coming off strong showing at Mason Rudolph Championship
TUSCALOOSA Ala. – The Alabama women's golf team returns to action this weekend at the University of Oklahoma's Schooner Fall Classic, Sept. 23-25 at the par-71, 6,046-yard Belmar Golf Club in Norman, Okla.
Alabama finished second in its first appearance in the Schooner Fall Classic last season, shooting an 11-under par 841 (275-282-284). Cheyenne Knight (66-69-72/207) finished sixth at 6-under par. Kristen Gillman (67-73-70/210) tied for eighth at 3-under par and Lakareber Abe (69-70-73/212) and Lauren Stephenson (73-70-69/212) tied for 12th at 1-under par.

Alabama's line-up this weekend is unchanged from last week: Senior Lakareber Abe (70.00 scoring average), juniors Cheyenne Knight (70.00) and Lauren Stephenson (66.67), sophomore Kristen Gillman (70.00) and freshman Angelica Moresco (72.33).
Tournament Field
Teams competing in this year's Schooner Fall Classic include: Alabama, Baylor, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Miami (Fla.), Mississippi State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas State, Tulsa, UCF and Washington.
National Rankings
Alabama boasts four of the nation's top 50-ranked golfers heading into this weekend's action. Lauren Stephenson (third), Lakareber Abe (40th), Cheyenne Knight (41st) and Kristen Gillman (42nd) are all ranked in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index, released Sept. 17.
As a team, Alabama is ranked third nationally by Golfweek/Sagarin this week. Arkansas is the nation's No. 1 team with a 69.33 rating, followed by Duke (69.59), Alabama (69.83), USC (70.43) and Illinois (70.46).
Last Outing: Mason Rudolph Championship
The Crimson Tide finished second at the season-opening Mason Rudolph Championship at the Vanderbilt Legends Club North Course in Franklin, Tenn. The Tide (284-272-273/829) shot 35-under par, the second-lowest score and score vs. par in school history. Junior Lauren Stephenson (68-68-64/200) shared individual medalist honors with a school record 16-under par performance.
