The Tide’s five-game win streak is their longest since 2012
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama women's soccer extended its win streak to five games, the longest streak since the 2012 season, by defeating Tennessee Tech, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Alabama Soccer Complex. The Crimson Tide (7-1) shutout their third opponent of the season, allowing no shots on goal by the Golden Eagles (3-3).
"In general I thought this was one of our flatter performances in terms of our energy level," said coach Wes Hart. The most disappointing thing was our overall energy level because I thought it was flat, but credit to the group for finding a way to win. We are not too good to take an ugly win."
In the sixth minute, Celia Jimenez Delgado crossed the ball from the right side, into the box that bounced off a Tennessee Tech defender and resulted in an own goal. From there, the two teams were in a defensive battled that did not result in any further scoring.
Alabama came right out of the gates in the first stanza with a great possession that led to a Tennessee Tech own goal in the sixth minute. After the goal, the tempo of the game slowed down with each team launching only four shots apiece to end the half.
Abbie Boswell started the second half strong with a threatening ball that resulted in a corner kick, but the Golden Eagles cleared the ball away to keep the Tide off the board. In the 57th minute, Chloe Maize challenged TTU's keeper by firing a rocket on frame, but her shot was saved.
The Crimson Tide continued to strike up plays to extend their lead, but nothing fell through and the game ended with Alabama on top.
Kat Stratton had a quiet night in the net with no saves in 90:00 minutes, thanks to a sound defensive performance that did not allow any shots on goal by the Golden Eagles.
The Crimson Tide collected 13 shots in the game to the Golden Eagles six shots, while Alabama earned eight corners, to Tennessee Tech's two.
Alabama returns to the pitch on Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. CT to take on No. 7 South Carolina in Columbia, S.C.
