Morgan earns second honor of the week
CULVER CITY, Calif. – Alabama soccer's Taylor Morgan grabbed her second honor of the week on Tuesday, as TopDrawerSoccer.com named her to Team of the Week for Aug. 21-27. Morgan was the only freshman featured on the Team of the Week and earns the first TopDrawerSoccer.com recognition of her career.
Morgan's honor comes after notching the game-winning goal in the 55th minute to defeat sixth-ranked Florida State, 1-0, in Tuscaloosa this past Sunday. The shutout victory marked the first time Alabama has defeated the Noles in the series between the two programs and is the second win for the Tide over an ACC opponent in school history. It was also the first top-10 victory in program history and the first win over head coach Wes Hart's former school after serving as a Florida State assistant coach before joining the Tide.
With the game tied at a deadlock, freshman Casey Wertz charged down the wing and found Morgan open at the top of the box. Morgan rocketed the ball through the keeper's hands for the goal. Morgan had three shots on the day with two on goal and recorded her second career goal and her first game-winner at Alabama.
Alabama will embark on its first road test this weekend when they travel to Mobile, Ala., to take on South Alabama on Friday, Sept. 1 at 7:30 p.m. CT and Troy on Sunday, Sept 3 at noon CT.
