Alabama Men’s Tennis Places Five on ITA Scholar-Athlete Team

The Crimson Tide also earned ITA All-Academic Team recognition after posting a 3.4 team grade point average during the 2016-17 academic year
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama men's tennis team had five members of its 2016-17 squad earn Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete status this season while the Crimson Tide also earned ITA All-Academic Team recognition.
Seniors Hayes Brewer and Ritchie Kruunenberg and freshmen Alexey Nesterov, Edson Ortiz and Zhe Zhou all earned the individual honor this season. The men's team also combined to earn a 3.43 team grade point average for the 2016-17 academic year. Alabama finished this past season strong with a 3.55 team GPA in the spring, which ranked first among all UA men's teams.
The Tide's five honorees tied for second among men's Southeastern Conference teams for the 2016-17 academic year.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners are factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2016 and spring 2017).
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: Be a varsity letter winner; have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year; and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman through senior year).
