LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced its 2017 All-Region honorees Thursday and Alabama juniors Alexis Osorio and Demi Turner were both named First Team All-South Region.
The award is the second career honor for both Osorio and Turner, previously winning as freshmen in 2015 before being selected as All-Americans later that season. Alabama has garnered 90 All-South Region honors in its 21-year history with 52 eventually leading to All-America accolades.
Osorio leads the SEC and ranks sixth nationally with 305 strikeouts over 179.1 innings pitched, an average of 1.7 per inning. She owns a 21-7 record with a 1.29 ERA, tossing 17 complete games including eight shutouts. She has thrown double-digit strikeouts in 14 games this season, including a school-record 19 in a seven-inning perfect game against Coastal Carolina on Feb. 10. In conference play, she was 9-5 with a 1.56 ERA and 132 strikeouts over 90.0 innings pitched. Her .123 opposing batting average and .146 clip in conference play both ranked second in the SEC.
Turner suffered a facial injury in the April 1 game against Missouri that forced her to sit out the majority of the SEC season, only recently returning in a pinch-running role for the final weekend of conference play and at the SEC Tournament. Despite missing over a month of the season, Turner still leads the team with a .387 batting average over her 37 starts, posting 43 hits in 111 at-bats. She posted multi-hit performances in 11 of her 37 starts, which leads the team.
