Spielmann becomes the fourth member of the Crimson Tide to earn the ITA/Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award
TEMPE, Ariz. – Alabama senior Danielle Spielmann earned the ITA/Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award of the Southern Region for women's tennis, announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Spielmann is just the fourth member of the Crimson Tide to earn the accolade, joining Emily Zabor (2014), Courtney McLane (2012) and Shelley Godwin (2009). She has had success on and off the court in her four years at the Capstone, as she most recently was named the Co-SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the 2017 season. In 2014, Spielmann was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team, and she played a vital role in helping the team secure the regular season SEC championship. Spielmann also earned ITA Scholar Athlete honors from 2014-16 and was on the 2014 SEC First-Year Honor Roll, while maintaining an impressive 3.981 cumulative grade point average as a marketing major.
She has been instrumental to the Tide's success on the court, as the Riehen, Switzerland, native leads the team for the most total wins in singles this year with 19. Spielmann has compiled 67 total wins in singles in her four years at Alabama, while collecting 68 victories in doubles. The gifted senior has tallied 12 career wins over nationally ranked singles opponents, while registering four career victories over nationally ranked doubles opponents. Spielmann also gave back to the Tuscaloosa community in her time as a member of the Tide, as she recorded 20 hours of community service in her four years.
