OAK RIDGE, Tenn. – Alabama rowing will compete against a field of Big 12 conference opponents this weekend, racing at the Big 12 Double Dual in Oak Ridge, Tenn., Saturday, April 8.
Four of the league's eight teams will be in action Saturday at Melton Hill Lake, the site of this year's conference championships in May. The Crimson Tide will compete against crews from Tennessee, Old Dominion and West Virginia. The remaining four conference teams Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas and Kansas State will compete in a separate Double Dual in Oklahoma City.
Five Alabama boats will race across five events, each competing in both a morning and afternoon session for a total of 10 races. The Tide's Third Varsity 8+ kicks the morning session off at 10:15 a.m. ET followed by the Second Varsity 4+ (10:30 a.m. ET), First Varsity 4+ (11 a.m. ET), Second Varsity 8+ (11:30 a.m. ET) and First Varsity 8+ (Noon ET). The afternoon session continues for Alabama with the 3V8+ at 2:15 p.m. ET followed by the 2V4+ (2:45 p.m. ET), 1V4+ (3 p.m. ET), 2V8+ (3:30 p.m. ET) and 1V8+ (4 p.m. ET).
Alabama heads into this weekend riding a surge of momentum from last weekend's FIRA Rowing Regatta in Sarasota, Fla. The Tide won six races in Sarasota and posted nine top-three finishes, earning four medals on the final day of competition, including three gold.
After this weekend, Alabama will have a week off of competition before heading to Dallas on Saturday, April 22 to face SMU and Tulsa. That will mark the final regatta of the spring before the Big 12 Championships on May 13-14.
