Alabama Women’s Golf Travels to Chicago for Northwestern Quad Match on Saturday

One day tournament will be the Crimson Tide’s final tune-up before NCAA play begins
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's golf team will visit Chicago for a quad match with Northwestern, Florida State and Duke on Saturday, April 29. The two-round match play tournament will be held at the par-72, 6,303-yard Lakeshore Country Club in suburban Glencoe, Ill.
The Crimson Tide will send out a lineup of sophomores Cheyenne Knight and Lauren Stephenson, freshman Kristen Gillman, junior Lakareber Abe and seniors Mia Landegren and Cammie Gray for a six-person match play tournament.
Alabama will face Northwestern and Florida State will take on Duke in the first round of the tournament at 8 a.m. CT on Saturday. The winners and losers will meet in the championship and consolation matches that afternoon.
Alabama Earns No. 1 Seed at NCAA Athens Regional
The Alabama women's golf team will be the No. 1 seed at the Athens Regional in Athens, Ga., the NCAA announced on Thursday morning. The NCAA Athens Regional will be held May 8-10 at the University of Georgia Golf Course. The regional bid is the 12th-straight invitation to postseason competition for the Crimson Tide. Joining Alabama at the Athens Regional are No. 2-seed Georgia, No. 3-seed Northwestern, No. 4-seed Arizona and No. 5-seed Baylor.
The top six teams and top three individuals from each regional will qualify for the 2017 NCAA Women's Golf Championships, which will be held May 19-24 at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill.
Crimson Tide Boasts Three of Nation's Top-15 Golfers
Sophomore Cheyenne Knight is the nation's No. 2-ranked golfer in the Golfstat individual statistical rankings released April 24. Knight (70.40) is joined in the top 15 by two of her teammates: sophomore Lauren Stephenson (71.04) is 10th and freshman Kristen Gillman (71.08) is 11th. Knight (third), Gillman (sixth) and Stephenson (17th) are also among the leaders in the Golfweek women's rankings released April 24.
Alabama No. 2 in National Rankings
The Tide is No. 2 latest Golfstat Relative rankings released April 24. Stanford is No. 1 this week followed by the Crimson Tide, UCLA, Florida and Florida State to round out the top five The Tide's rating of 70.60 is No. 2 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index released April 26. UCLA (70.59) tops the Golfweek rankings followed by the Crimson Tide, Stanford (70.63), Arizona State (70.64) and Florida State (70.77).
Alabama Finishes Second at SEC Championships after Record Final Round
Alabama set an SEC championship record with a blistering 13-under par final round to tie for second place at the 2017 Southeastern Conference Women's Golf Championship April 21-23 in Birmingham, Ala.
The final round 13-under par 275 by the Crimson Tide is a new SEC Women's Golf Championship record for score and score vs. par. Individually, Cheyenne Knight led the Tide with a 5-under par 211 (75-70-66) to tie for fifth place. Kristen Gillman tied for seventh one shot back at 4-under par.
