RollTide.com will be posting Q&As with members of the Alabama football team so fans can get to know the student-athletes competing for the Crimson Tide. This week, we visit with junior linebacker Rashaan Evans. The Auburn, Ala. native had 32 solo tackles and four sacks during the 2016 season.
What is the most challenging thing about your position?
Rashaan Evans: To be able to cover wide receivers. Anytime we have a situation where we have to cover wide receivers, it's very challenging because you have a guy that is more agile and most likely is going to be faster than you. If you can cover him, then it shows that you're pretty athletic.
Who were some players you looked up to when you were a kid?
RA: I liked DeMarcus Ware, he was kind of my idol. When I was comign up, I liked Marcell Dareus.
What is your favorite Coach Saban memory?
RA: Wow, I have a lot of those. It was my first ever practice and I messed up a play. He got upset with me, but after that he came over to me and was much quieter and softer. I still think about how he came over to me and told me to just be comfortable and relax. I still think about that.
What is your favorite Alabama football tradition?
RA: When they used to play Dixieland Delight in the stadium.
Do you have any pregame rituals that you go through?
RA: Right before we kickoff, I stand on the 50 yard line. I squat, touch the grass and get acclimated to the field. Then we kickoff and its game time.
What is your favorite class you've taken at Alabama?
RA: My debate class. Basically you get to argue so that is for sure the best class.
If you weren't a football player, you would be a…?
RA: I would probably be a musician.
