Alabama Women’s Tennis Q&A: Juliana Valero

RollTide.com will be posting Q&A's of each member on this year's Alabama women's tennis team so fans can get to know the members of our Crimson Tide family. The final Q&A is with Juliana Valero, a gifted freshman from Cali, Colombia. Valero has 12 wins in singles, including five since the start of the dual match season. She also has eight total doubles victories this year, including five since the start of the spring season.
Q: What was your first visit to campus like?
A: My first visit to campus was very short. I only stayed for about a day, but it really created a powerful impact. It's an amazing campus.
Q: What surprised you most about Alabama?
A: What surprised me most about Alabama was how nice people are. They are all very happy and welcoming people.
Q: What is your favorite thing about your hometown?
A: Definitely people, and food.
Q: What is your favorite restaurant in Tuscaloosa?
A: My favorite restaurant is Heritage House. I've never tasted anything better than baked oatmeal, we don't have that in Colombia.
Q: What is your favorite tennis memory?
A: When we won a South American tournament that got us into Junior Fed Cup representing Colombia.
Q: Who inspired you most in tennis?
A: I just have a general admiration for every top tennis player that has achieved so much through it, but definitely my family is what keeps my dreams and desires going.
Q: When did playing tennis in college become a goal for you?
A: It was always an option for me and my family, a way of getting an education through tennis and also keep improving my game to keep playing professionally.
Q: What song pumps you up to play?
A: I don't have a specific song, my music is very different from the ones the girls play. I guess I've learned to pump myself up with their songs.
Q: What is your favorite movie made before you were born?
A: I don't think I really know a lot of movies from that time, I like more modern type of movies.
Q: What is your favorite movie?
A: I like a lot of movies, but maybe Fast and Furious 5.
Q: What is your dream job?
A: I want to play tennis professionally, hopefully I can get to achieve a lot with it.
Q: If you could live in a book, which book would you live in?
A: I am not a huge fan of books. I'd rather watch movies, so I don't really have a preference.
Q: What is your favorite hobby outside of tennis?
A: I love to watch movies, draw and be with my family and friends.
Q: If you could meet any person in the world who would it be?
A: Maybe Vin Diesel, he's one of my favorite actors.
Q: If you were playing a pro circuit what grand slam would you want to win most?
A: Wimbledon, I love how classy it is.
Q: What do you like to hear from fans when they are cheering for you?
A: I think our fans are great and I love everything they say. I get pumped by just hearing a "come on".
Q: What are some goals you look to achieve this spring season?
A: I would love for us to make it to NCAA's.
Q: If you weren't playing tennis what sport would you play?
A: Soccer, it's my favorite sport besides tennis.
Q: Who would win an arm wrestling competition on the team?
A: I think Andie and I can have a pretty good battle.
Q: What is your favorite holiday?
A: I love Christmas, especially because it's a time where family becomes one of the most important things.
Q: If you could give one message to your fans what would it be?
A: I would just like to thank them because without them this team wouldn't be the same. They create such a big impact on us and everyone around. I would also like them to know that we'll always give 100% of ourselves to make Alabama successful. We really look forward to see them every week, they make the experience so much better.
