Six Alabama Swimmers Earn Individual Berths for 2017 NCAA Championships

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - A total of six members of the Alabama men's swimming and diving team have earned individual berths at the NCAA championships it was announced Wednesday. That group includes three-time Southeastern Conference 100 backstroke champion Connor Oslin, who finished second in the 100 backstroke at last year's NCAA championships.
The 2017 championships will be held March 22-25 at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis. Â
In addition to Oslin, All-Americans Laurent Bams, Anton McKee, Luke Kaliszak and Christopher Reid are all making return visits to the championships, while freshman Zane Waddell will be making his NCAA debut.
Oslin and Reid qualified in the 100 and 200 backstrokes. McKee qualified in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes and Bams qualified in the 100 freestyle. Kaliszak qualified in the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly, while Waddell qualified in the 50 and 100 freestyles.
The Tide advanced all five relays to the NCAA championships and is seeded in the top 10 in the 200 and 400 freestyle and 200 medley relays. Alabama will add relay swimmers to its championship roster later this week.
Alabama finished sixth at last year's NCAA championships after finishing 10th in 2015. It marked the Crimson Tide's first back-to-back top-10 national finishes since the 1985 and 1986.
