Alabama Rowing Travels to Florida for FIRA Rowing Regatta

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama rowing continues its spring season this weekend with a set of races in Sarasota, Fla., at the FIRA Rowing Regatta. Two days of racing at Nathan Benderson Park begins on Friday, March 31 and concludes on Saturday, April 1.
"We're going to be facing some of the stiffest competition we've seen in almost a full calendar year," UA Head Coach Larry Davis said. "We certainly want to be able to run with the big teams. We look like we're starting to get that boat speed in the upper boats. Certainly the proof will be in the pudding and we'll have two opportunities to do so on Friday and Saturday."
Alabama will send six crews to compete in five events, with each racing once on Friday and once on Saturday. The Crimson Tide will have one boat in the First Varsity 8+, Second Varsity 8+, First Varsity 4+, Second Varsity 4+ and two boats in the Third Varsity 8+. Alabama will be competing against a talented slate of Division-I teams, including Jacksonville, North Carolina, UCF, Tulsa, Miami and Big 12 foe Kansas State.
The Second Varsity 4+ kicks off Friday's races at 3:20 p.m. ET, followed by the First Varsity 4+ (3:50 p.m. ET), Third Varsity 8+ (4:20 p.m. ET), Second Varsity 8+ (4:50 p.m. ET) and First Varsity 8+ (5 p.m. ET). On Saturday, the First Varsity 8+ opens events at 8 a.m. ET followed by the Second Varsity 8+ (8:36 a.m. ET), Third Varsity 8+ (9:12 a.m. ET), First Varsity 4+ (9:48 a.m. ET) and Second Varsity 4+ (10:12 a.m. ET).
Alabama is coming off a senior-day sweep last weekend in Tuscaloosa, defeating Dayton in nine races on the Black Warrior River. The three wins against the Flyers continues an undefeated streak for the Tide's First Varsity 8+ crew so far this spring, having defeated Eastern Michigan, Bucknell and Dayton.
