Alabama Men’s Tennis Falls to Florida on Thursday Night

The Crimson Tide hosts South Carolina and Jackson State on Saturday, April 1, at 1 p.m. CT and 6 p.m. CT, respectively
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama men's tennis team lost a 4-0 decision to the 12th-ranked Florida Gators on Thursday night at the Alabama Tennis Stadium. With the loss, the Crimson Tide falls to an 8-13 overall record including a 1-7 mark in Southeastern Conference play, while the Florida improves to 13-6 and 6-1 in league action.
Florida registered the first doubles victory of the contest, as Joseph Guillin and McClain Kessler topped freshmen Zhe Zhou and Edson Ortiz in a 6-1 decision on court three. The Gators clinched the doubles point to take a 1-0 match lead headed to singles play, as Maxx Lipman and Elliot Orkin outlasted freshmen Thibault Cancel and Alexey Nesterov, 7-5, on court two.
The Gators continued to execute in singles, as Ortiz (No. 3) lost in straight sets to Chase Perez-Blanco, 6-2, 6-0, giving Florida a 2-0 match lead. Ingildsen went on to defeat Nesterov (No. 4) in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0, to extend the Gators match advantage to 3-0. Florida's Lipman won a tiebreaker in the second frame over Richey (No. 5), 6-3, 7-6(5), to clinch the 4-0 match victory over Alabama.
The Tide will be back in action on Saturday, April 1, when it is set to host South Carolina and Jackson State at the Alabama Tennis Stadium at 1 p.m. CT and 6 p.m. CT, respectively.
