INDIANAPOLIS – Alabama got the 2017 Men's NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships underway Wednesday with a 22nd-place finish in the 800 freestyle relay.
"That wasn't the start we were looking for but we've got the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 medley relay tomorrow and those are two of our stronger relays," UA head coach Dennis Pursley said. "We also have Anton McKee in the 200 individual medley and three guys in the 50 freestyle, so it will be a full day for us."
Junior Christopher Reid led off the Crimson Tide's 800 freestyle relay and was followed by senior Alex Gray, junior Matthew Adams and sophomore Robert Howard, who stopped the clock at 6:22.79.
After Wednesday's short schedule – the 800 relay was the day's lone event - the meet goes to its full prelims and finals schedule on Thursday. Prelims start at 10 a.m. ET and finals begin at 6 p.m. ET. Thursday's prelims include the 200 freestyle and 400 medley relays as well as the 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley relay and the 50 freestyle.
