Alabama Men’s Tennis Falls Short to Texas A&M on Friday Night

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama men's tennis team lost a 4-0 decision to the 11th-ranked Texas A&M Aggies on Friday night at the Alabama Tennis Stadium. With the loss, the Crimson Tide falls to an overall 6-11 record and 0-5 in Southeastern Conference play, while the Aggies improve to 11-3 and 5-0 in league play.
Alabama's No. 66 ranked doubles tandem in sophomores Mazen Osama and Spencer Richey defeated Texas A&M's No. 22 ranked doubles pair Arthur Rinderknech and Max Lunkin in a 6-1 decision on court one to begin doubles play. The Aggies responded, as Aleksandre Bakshi and Hady Habib teamed up to top freshmen Thibault Cancel and Alexey Nesterov, 6-4, on court two. With the doubles point on the line, Jordin Arconada and A.J. Catanzariti claimed a 6-3 victory on court three over freshmen Edson Ortiz and Zhe Zhou giving Texas A&M a 1-0 match advantage headed into singles.
The Aggies' No. 8 ranked singles player in Rinderknech topped the Tide's No. 41 ranked singles player Osama (No. 1) in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1, to extend the match lead to 2-0. Texas A&M went on to win in straight sets on courts three and five to clinch the 4-0 match victory over the Tide. Texas A&M's Valentin Vacherot topped Richey (No. 5) in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5, before Bakshi claimed a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Ortiz (No. 3) resulting in the final match score.
The Tide will be back in action on Sunday, March 19, when it is set to host the LSU Tigers at the Alabama Tennis Stadium in a match that is set to start at 1 p.m. CT.
