INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – When the 2017 Women's NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships get underway in Indianapolis, Ind., Wednesday, Alabama will have five swimmers on deck, competing in five individual events and two relays.
"Our focus is going to be on the opportunities that we have," UA head coach Dennis Pursley said. "Any time we're going into a peak performance competition, we're trying to swim lifetime best times, whether it's in relays or individual events."
The Crimson Tide will be led by Honorable Mention All-American Mia Nonnenberg and Southeastern Conference medalist Bailey Scott, both of which earned individual berths.
Nonnenberg will compete in the 500 and 1,650 freestyles as well as the 400 individual medley at her third consecutive NCAA championship. Scott will swim the 50 and 100 freestyles. It will be her third NCAA championship and the first in which she'll compete in individual events.
Scott will be joined in the 200 and 400 medley relays by junior Hannah Musser, who earned Honorable Mention All-American honors last season in the 400 medley relay, as well as sophomores Katie Coughlin and Emma Murray.
With only the 800 freestyle relay on day one of the championships, Alabama will get things underway Thursday with the prelims of the 500 and 50 freestyles as well as the 400 medley relay. Prelims begin at 10 a.m. ET while finals start at 6 p.m. ET.
