TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Riding a 17-game win streak after a 3-0 start to conference play last weekend, Alabama softball moved up one spot to No. 8 in the week five ESPN.com/USA Softball Poll, released Tuesday. The Crimson Tide remains at No. 11 for the third-straight week in the USA Today/NFCA poll.
Last week, Alabama extended its current winning streak to 17 games, going 5-0 including a sweep over 24th-ranked Arkansas to begin SEC play. No new teams entered the top 10 this week in either poll, with Florida State remaining at No. 1 in the NFCA poll and in-state rival Florida claiming the top spot in the USA Softball poll.
Alabama is one of 10 SEC schools ranked in this week's top 25. All 13 SEC teams are either ranked or receiving votes in at least one poll this week. Ranked SEC teams include Florida (2/1), Auburn (4/5), Texas A&M (7/7), Alabama (11/8), LSU (13/12), Tennessee (15/14), Georgia (16/16), Kentucky (17/18) and Ole Miss (22/24) and Arkansas (RV/25). Missouri, South Carolina and Mississippi State are each receiving votes outside the top 25.
This week, Alabama closes its 12-game home stand against Winthrop and Georgia Southern on Wednesday, March 15 before heading to Starkville, Miss., for a three-game series against Mississippi State starting Friday, March 17.
