TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The NCAA released the qualifiers list for the upcoming women's national swimming and diving championships and the Alabama Crimson Tide has qualified two individuals and three relays.
Juniors Mia Nonnenberg and Bailey Scott qualified in two individual events a piece while Alabama qualified the 200 and 400 medley relays as well as the 200 freestyle relay.
Scott qualified in the 50 and 100 freestyle, events in which she owns the school record. At the recent SEC Championships, she became the first female swimmer in UA history to go under 22 seconds, smashing her own school record with a 21.84 to reach the podium and earn the bronze medal. In the 100 she won the SEC Championships B final with a school record 48.48, taking ninth overall. Scott has competed at the NCAA Championships twice as part of relays. This will be her first trip swimming individual races.
Nonnenberg, who earned honorable mention All-America honors in the 400 individual medley last season, qualified in that event as well as the 1,650 freestyle. She owns the Alabama school record in both events. Nonnenberg set the school mark in the 400 individual medley at last year's SEC Championships and set the Alabama record in the 1,650 freestyle at the Georgia Tech Invitational this past November. This will be her third consecutive trip to the NCAA Championships.
Alabama earned an automatic bid in the 200 medley relay on day one of the SEC Championships while the other two relays posted provisional cuts and were added to the field by virtue of their national rank. The Tide will announce its relay lineups later in the week.
The Tide has the opportunity to add to its NCAA squad early next week when the UA divers will look to qualify at the NCAA Zone B Championships March 6-8 in Auburn, Ala.
