The Crimson Tide stands at 15-9 overall and 3-8 in Southeastern Conference games, while the win lifted the Aggies to 18-6 on the season and 8-3 against league opponents.
"Credit Texas A&M tonight," said Alabama head coach Kristy Curry. "I thought that they really did the things that they had to do. We didn't respond very well."
Alabama was led in scoring by junior Meoshonti Knight, who finished with 11 points. Junior Coco Knight had one of her best games of the season as she collected 10 points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal in 21 minutes off the bench. The Tide was led on the boards by junior Ashley Williams, who had a game-high 10 rebounds. Sophomore Anriel Howard recorded a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Texas A&M opened the game on a 9-2 run, however Alabama would respond by scoring nine of the next 11 points to even the game at 11-11 at the 2:53 mark of the first. The Aggies ended the frame with nine unanswered to take the lead back and close out the quarter with a 20-11 advantage.
Texas A&M outscored the Tide 6-1 over a 2:24 span to open the second. From there, Alabama connected on a pair of baskets on its next two possessions, but a 6-4 run for the Aggies to end the quarter gave the home team a 34-20 lead at the half.
Texas A&M continued to lead throughout the third and fourth quarters and eventually claimed the 21-point victory.
For the game, Alabama shot 31.0 percent (18-58), while Texas A&M finished at 50.9 percent (28-55) from the floor. The Tide's bench was responsible for 30 of its points compared to just six from the Aggies.
"I didn't like the response a couple of our kids had on the defensive end and rebounding," added Curry. "Your shot may not always fall, but it's always the size of your heart and your energy and your effort on the boards. At the end of the day, hats off to those guys (Texas A&M). We will move forward and try and bounce back against Florida."
Alabama returns home for Sunday's matchup with the Gators, which will serve as the Tide's annual Power of Pink/Play for Kay game. Tip is slated for 1 p.m. CT on the SEC Network.
