Alabama Swimming and Diving Posts Top Marks at Bulldog Invitational

ATHENS, Ga. – The Alabama swimming and diving team won two individual events and posted a number of career-best times on day one of the Bulldog Invitational being held on the University of Georgia campus this week.
Senior Alex Gray won the 200 freestyle by more than a second, posting a 1:36.50 in finals after swimming a 1:36.34 in prelims. Senior Pavel Romanov also picked up a win on day one, posting a 53.19 to win the 100 breaststroke after swimming a 53.00 in prelims.
Freshman Daniel Kober posted a career-best 4:19.89 to take second in the 500 freestyle, which ranks him eighth all-time at Alabama. Junior Temarie Tomley was second in the 200 freestyle with a 1:47.14 after posting a season-best 1:47.13 in prelims. Junior David Morton was second off the 1-meter springboard after totaling 314.10 points.
In the shortest freestyle race, freshman Chris Staka dipped under 20 seconds in the 50 freestyle, posting a career-best 19.95 to take third place.
Junior Braxton Young won the B final of the 50 freestyle, taking ninth overall with a career-best 20.03. Young also took third in the 100 butterfly with a career-best 48.18 while junior Taylor Charles was fourth in a time of 48.51.
Sophomore Ayanna Woods was third off the 3-meter springboard with 243.90 points.
Senior Caroline Korst was fourth in the 100 backstroke with a 53.67 while sophomore Katie Coughlin was sixth with a 53.85. Coughlin clocked a career-best 53.31 in prelims, which ranks her second all-time at Alabama.
Freshman Kyle Maas took fourth in the 100 backstroke with a 47.96. In prelims, Maas touched the wall with a career-best 47.84, which ranks him fifth all-time at UA.
The meet concludes Sunday with prelims starting at 10 a.m. ET with finals starting at 4 p.m. ET.
