Alabama Women’s Tennis Concludes Play at Blue Gray National Tennis Classic

Crimson Tide travels to Ole Miss on Friday, March 3, to open Southeastern Conference play
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Alabama women's tennis team concluded play at the 69th annual Blue Gray National Tennis Classic on Saturday afternoon with a pair of matches. The Crimson Tide (6-4) fell short against No. 5 Texas Tech, 4-0, before going on to shutout Denver in a 4-0 decision. Alabama posted a 2-1 mark on the weekend.
The doubles portion of the contest against Texas Tech was played on Friday evening, and the Red Raiders clinched the doubles point to take a 1-0 match lead headed into today's match. The Red Raiders continued to show why they are a top-five team nationally in singles play, as the claimed wins on courts three, four and five in straight sets to clinch the 4-0 match victory.
The Tide turned the tables in its second match of the day against Denver. Senior Erin Routliffe and freshman Maddie Pothoff teamed up to upset Denver's No. 11 nationally-ranked doubles pair Julia O'Loughlin and Maureen Slattery in 6-0 shutout on court one. Alabama went on to clinch the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead headed into singles play, as senior Danielle Spielmann and sophomore Andie Daniell topped Bianca Mok and Morgan Barnhill in a 6-2 decision on court two.
In singles play, Daniell (No. 2) overcame O'Loughlin in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, to take a 2-0 match advantage. The Tide earned a 3-0 match lead, as Alabama's No. 116 ranked singles player Routliffe (No. 1) picked up a win in straight sets against Denver's No. 96 Mok, 6-4, 6-4. Senior Joanna Savva (No. 4) clinched the 4-0 match for the Tide, as she defeated Gracia Mboko in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.
The Tide will be back in action on Friday, March 3, when it travels to Oxford, Miss., to open the Southeastern Conference portion of its schedule against Ole Miss at 2 p.m. CT.
