TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The No. 4-ranked Alabama gymnastics team will host No. 12 Boise State this Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Coleman Coliseum. The Broncos are Alabama's ninth top-25 opponent of the season and sixth in the top 12.
The Crimson Tide will also welcome USA Olympian Nastia Liukin to the Coliseum. The Olympic all-around champion will sign autographs from 6-7 p.m. on the concourse. The meet will also be Princess Night. Fans can wear their favorite princess costume and have their pictures taken with various princesses prior to the meet.
It will also be Academic Achievement Night in Coleman Coliseum. City and county schools have distributed vouchers to eligible students that can be redeemed online or at the Alabama Ticket Office for admission for two. More information is available online at RollTide.com/achieve.
"This will be such a fun night for everyone," UA head coach Dana Duckworth said. "To have Nastia Liukin with us and all the princesses and to honor those who strive for academic excellence, I just can't wait for Friday."
Alabama will be looking for its sixth 197-plus score of the season and fourth in a row on Friday.
"We need to continue to work on those small details and not become complacent," Duckworth said. "I want to see us be relaxed and having fun, because I think that's when we're at our best."
Alabama scored its fifth 197-plus score of the season last weekend against in-state rival Auburn, beating the Tigers 197.350-196.450, while Boise State is coming off a 196.700-196.300 road win over Utah State. The Crimson Tide and Broncos last faced off on Feb. 13, 2015 in Tuscaloosa, with Alabama coming out on top 197.800-195.450.
During last week's Alabama-Auburn meet, students, teachers and staff from local elementary schools signed up at the ReadBAMARead table and the school that had the most people sign in earned $1,000 worth of library books for their school. Last week's winning school will be announced prior the Boise State meet.
ReadBAMARead, Duckworth's literacy initiative, will hold the same contest again this week during the UA-BSU meet. The winning school from Friday's contest will be announced at the Tide's next home meet on March 10 against Iowa State.
Tickets to Friday's meet are available through the Alabama Ticket Office (205.348.2262) located in the lobby of Coleman Coliseum and online at RollTide.com.
