Tide back in action on Friday when it travels to compete in Blue-Gray National Tennis Classic
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's tennis team had one student-athlete and one doubles pair earn spots in the Division I Women's Collegiate Tennis Rankings, released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Tuesday.
Senior standout Erin Routliffe and sophomore Andie Daniell are ranked No. 42 in doubles play, marking the third time this year the pair has teamed up to earn a national ranking. Earlier this fall, the duo won the ITA Southern Regional Doubles Championships, marking the second consecutive year the pair has done so. With the victory, the Tide's tandem earned an automatic entry into the 2016 ITA National Collegiate Indoor Championships where they defeated California's Maegan Mansse and Denise Starr in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4, before ending their run against Jada Hart and Ena Shibahara of UCLA. The couple collected a 6-3 record this fall, and they have yet to compete with each other since the spring season started.
Routliffe, who hails from Caledon, Ontario, also achieved a No. 116 singles ranking, after previously not being ranked. She has an overall 7-3 singles record this year, including a 3-1 marking since beginning dual action. All four of Routliffe's singles matches since beginning dual play have come from the No. 1 singles position.
The Tide will be back in action on Friday when it travels to Montgomery, Ala., to compete in the annual Blue-Gray National Tennis Classic two-day event.
